2017 Dayton Metro Library Poetry Contest

ACCEPTING ENTRIES SEPTEMBER 1-30, 2017


WHO CAN ENTER?
Anyone residing in Montgomery and surrounding counties (Miami, Greene, Warren, Preble) in these age categories: Teen (age 13-18) Adult (age 19-59) Senior (age 60+)

JUDGING: Poems are judged on originality, creativity, impact and adherence to contest rules. Judging is anonymous; each poem is assigned a number. Authors retain copyright to their work.

CASH PRIZES! First Place $100 Second Place $75 Third Place $50 in each age category, courtesy of the Friends of the Dayton Metro Library. FIRST PLACE WINNERS will be published in Mock Turtle Zine!

CONTEST RULES:

  • Submit only one poem per person, no more than one page in length.
  • Poems may be any subject matter, but must be suitable for a general audience.
  • Poems must be original and not previously published (self-published is acceptable).
  • Poems should be typed in a plain typeface, no fancy fonts, colors or illustrations.
  • Do not put your name or contact information on your poem. Your name should appear on the entry form or in the body of your email only.
  • Entries must be received or postmarked by 6:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017.

DROP OFF your poem with entry form at any Dayton Metro Library location.

 MAIL your poem and entry form to: Dayton Metro Library Poetry Contest, External Relations Dept., 120 S. Patterson Blvd. Dayton OH 45402

EMAIL your poem attached as a Word or Text document to: GOwen@DaytonMetroLibrary.org

Include in the body of your email:

  • your name
  • address
  • phone number
  • age category
  • poem title

Do NOT include this information on the poem itself.
