Haapapuro Visits DML to Make Butterflies with Patrons

Dayton Metro Library is hosting Make Butterflies with Leesa Haapapuro in the Main Library’s Opportunity Space @ St. Clair, 1st Floor, Thursday, September 1, 8, 15, and 22, from 1-3 pm.

Patrons are welcome to drop by and work with Haapapuro during these designated studio times, or during other Library hours on their own, to decorate a butterfly, which will be added to DML’s Kaleidoscope of Butterflies Art Project & Tree of Life Memorial.

The Tree of Life Memorial consists of nine paintings created by local artists, which represent the lives that were lost in the Oregon District shooting on August 2, 2019. Because butterflies are a symbol of hope, growth, and change, adding a butterfly will build on the Memorial’s efforts to encourage visitors to reflect on the 3rd anniversary of this tragedy that struck the heart of the Gem City.

The Kaleidoscope of Butterflies Art Project & Tree of Life Memorial is on display through Saturday, October 1. Registration is not required for Make Butterflies with Leesa Haapapuro or to view the Memorial. The Main Library is located at 215 East Third Street, Dayton. For more information about Happapuro’s studio hours and the Memorial, visit DaytonMetroLibrary.org/Programs or call the Library’s Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.
