Clothing offers lots of opportunities for talking with your preschooler about size, number and color. You can use shoes to sort and match, make comparisons and build one-to-one correspondence. Young children often like to line things up and shoes are good for that as well. Support your child to line up the shoes and sequence them from big to little, most worn to newest looking, or sorted by color or ownership. Measure the size of shoes using non-standard units (paper clips, small blocks, toothpicks, etc.). How many paper clips long are your shoes compared to Dad’s shoes? These simple, no cost activities will build your child’s thinking skills!
