The Dayton Metro Library is seeking a full-time Accountant to join our Finance team! This position reports to the Accounting Manager and works at the Main Library in downtown Dayton. Essential Job Duties

  • Maintains financial records according to state auditing requirements. Prepares monthly financial statements for the Board of Trustees. Prepares annual report for the public and prepares financial statements for the annual audit.
  • Assists with maintaining current data on the financial condition of the Library. Provides data and assists with preparation of the annual budget and appropriations document.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining a system of internal accounting controls.
  • Audits personnel changes prior to biweekly payroll process. Prepares payroll spreadsheets and reports as needed for monitoring and budgeting purposes.
  • Assists with receiving and depositing of all library funds in an authorized depository and investing funds to maximize interest earnings.
  • Maintains fixed asset system for financial purposes and prepares statement of values for insurance renewal.
  • Collects and reviews all purchase requisitions and processes purchase orders.
  • Files government reports, such as sales tax returns, employee census, 1099s, Ohio withholding taxes, Ohio Worker’s Compensation and ensures W-9 compliance. 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in business administration-preferably with a major in finance or accounting; and two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Knowledge of fund and cash basis accounting principles and financial record keeping requirements.
  • Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and fixed asset procedures.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, policy and procedure manuals and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, coworkers and members of the community. Ability to apply active listening skills.

Compensation and Benefits: The staring hourly rate for this position is $21.71. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance along with paid time off and OPERS retirement.
