It's a great illustration of how nonprofit leaders must prepare their boards, volunteers and staff to spread the word. The book Fired Up Fundraising: Turning Board Passion into Action outlines many training exercises your group can use to do just that. According to author Gail Perry, there are three essential parts to the Elevator Speech:

1. What You Say - Quick, easy to understand, and memorable.
2. How You Say It - More important than reciting facts is conveying that you genuinely care.
