Book lovers and movie buffs are invited to participate in online gatherings, hosted each month by the Dayton Metro Library.
“Winter is a time to hunker down at home and enjoy good books and good movies, even without COVID,” said Julie Buchanan, DML Programming Manager. “These groups give us the chance to connect each month with other readers and movie lovers for conversation and friendship.”
Three book discussion groups focus on different genres. Pub-Lit, which formerly met in person at a local eatery, now meets online to discuss books that may be acclaimed, but lesser-known. Tea & Mystery is for mystery lovers, while the LGBTQIA+ Book Club discusses both fiction and nonfiction with LGBTQ themes or characters.
A new group for movie lovers is called Cinematic Conversations. Participants watch a selected film on their own with Dayton Metro Library’s free Kanopy subscription, then meet online to talk about it and choose the next film the group will watch.
It is recommended that participants have a stable internet connection, a microphone enabled device or headset and, if desired, a webcam, but participation by phone is also welcome. Advance registration is required; registered participants will receive details on how to join each meeting on the day of the event. Register online here or call 937.463.2665.
