“I am beyond eager to welcome the public into their new Main Library,” said Tim Kambitsch, Executive Director. “We’ve watched as the Main Library has been transformed over the past two years. On the outside, the design presents a striking addition to the downtown skyline. On the inside, we’re transforming what the Dayton Metro Library can be for our community.”
Features in the new Main Library include:
“The Library today plays many roles in order to meet the needs of the community,” said Kambitsch. “This beautiful facility will be a destination for learning, collaboration, exploration and experience. We are committed to education, workforce development and supporting business, nonprofits and personal growth.”
Resources and expertise to support Small Business, Workforce Development and Nonprofits in the Miami Valley are centered at LAUNCH Point on the Library’s second floor. Nearby, The Dayton Room houses unique Local History and Genealogy Collections.
The new Children’s Area features hands-on learning technology and manipulatives to aid children, their caregivers and teachers in Early Literacy, Kindergarten Readiness, the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and STEM learning. Cheerful, climbable furniture makes the area kid-friendly, and a Creative Space is dedicated to children’s programming and creative exploration.
The expansive TeenEDGE gives teens their own space for programs, gaming, recording equipment and collections. Tweens who don’t want to be with little kids and aren’t quite ready to be teens will find an area of their own for gaming and study.
For those who simply seek peace and quiet in their Library for reading, study or contemplation, the new Main Library offers the enclosed Berry Quiet Reading Room, with expansive windows and sunset city views.
“We are fortunate to enjoy strong support in our community, and we are grateful to the voters of Montgomery County who overwhelmingly approved a bond issue in 2012 to make the Libraries for a Smarter Future facilities project a reality,” said Kambitsch.
The Main Library resumes regular hours of operation beginning Sunday, August 6:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 9:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00-5:00 p.m. year round
“While the new building is certainly breathtaking, it’s what people bring to it and gain from it that’s truly inspirational,” said Kambitsch. “Working together, we can discover, learn, collaborate and achieve.
