Babies are born ready to learn – and the Dayton Metro Library is ready to help new parents take advantage of this critical period of development with a gift called Love Them Out Loud. Distributed through doctor’s offices, WIC clinics and parent educators in the community, Love Them Out Loud provides hours of learning activities and fun for parents to share with their babies.
“The Library wants to support parents with the resources they need to start building the foundation for a lifetime of learning,” said Kathleen Moore, Early Literacy Librarian. “Reading, playing, singing and talking are easy ways to set children on the road to reading success.”
The gift box includes an original board book titled I Love You Out Loud, designed to entertain babies with rhymes and colorful illustrations while depicting easy things parents can do to engage their children in daily learning. A hands-free easel flipbook offers caregiver tips and interactive activities for parents and babies. And a Library Card application is included, so that parents can access the materials and resources available at their Library.
“Love Them Out Loud helps parents boost their baby’s brain development and ability to learn language,” said Moore. “It’s the gift of early childhood literacy.”
