Creative Aging Classes - Art for Older Adults

West Carrollton and Burkhardt Branch Libraries

Older adults seeking a creative outlet have new options at the West Carrollton and Burkhardt Branches of the Dayton Metro Library.  The Ohio Arts Council recently awarded a grant to the Dayton Metro Library and 14 other Ohio-based organizations, to create hands-on arts experiences tailored to the needs and interests of older adults. Local teaching artist Teresa Olivarria will lead free classes at the Libraries specifically for those age 55 and over. While the classes are free, advance registration is required.

Participants in this 6-week collage-journaling class for adults 55+, led by teaching artist Teresa Olavarria, will explore relevant themes with a combination of found, altered, and created images. Cut and torn images will be adhered to journal pages and embellished with paint and ink as desired.  All necessary supplies are provided at no cost to registrants, through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Tuesdays, March 7-April 11, 6:00-8:00 p.m. - West Carrollton Branch Library,
300 E. Central Avenue in the West Carrollton Government Center.

This 8-week drawing workshop for adults 55+, also taught by local teaching artist Teresa Olavarria, will sharpen your powers of observation and improve your drawing skills.  Make new friends and experiment with a variety of techniques in this fun, ungraded class. All necessary supplies are provided at no cost through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services

Thursdays, March 9-April 27. 10:00 a.m.-Noon - Burkhardt Branch Library,
