AniMangaCon: Dayton Metro Library Event for Teens

Teen fans of anime and manga will converge on Saturday, October 15, for the Dayton Metro Library’s annual AniMangaCon! The free celebration of Japanese animation (anime) and cartooning (manga) takes place 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the new Northwest Branch Library, 2410 Philadelphia Drive in Dayton.

“AniMangaCon is a great opportunity for like-minded kids from across the Miami Valley to get together and have fun for free,” said Steve Moser, Dayton Metro Library Teen Services Coordinator. “For teen anime and manga fans, this is the place to be.”

AniMangaCon features cosplay, crafts, contests and prizes.

“Holding the event in our fantastic new Northwest Branch Library this year gives us opportunities to use the new gaming technology and spaces,” said Moser.
Activities include:

  • Costume Contest - enter as an individual or a group in the costume contest
  • Crafts - Make buttons, coasters and perler bead creations
  • Art Contest - bring your favorite recently-created manga drawing. Attendees will vote for their favorites
  • Make your own candy sushi and bubble tea
  • Tabletop and oversize games
  • Video Games - A Super Smash Bros. tournament on the Library’s gaming equipment
  • Costume Creation Challenge - work in teams to create a paper and duct tape costume on the spot
  • Plus word searches, coloring pages and more

“The Pancake Art Contest is a new activity this year,” said Moser. “Teens can use multicolored pancake batter to create their favorite characters, then enter them in the contest – or eat them!”
