The first entirely new Library to be built in Montgomery County since 2000 opens its doors in a grand celebration on Friday, April 22. The Northwest Branch of the Dayton Metro Library, located at 2410 Philadelphia Drive, serves patrons of the consolidated Dayton View, Ft. McKinley and Northtown-Shiloh Branches.
The Grand Opening takes place 1:30-5:30 p.m. on April 22, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Marsha Bonhart at 2:00 p.m. Activities are planned throughout the afternoon, including a performance by Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, tours of the Library, technology demonstrations and refreshments. Special attractions for children include animals from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, Library mascots Cosmo and Pip, and gaming in the Teen and Tween Area.
“We are so pleased to open this beautiful new Library,” said Tim Kambitsch, Dayton Metro Library Executive Director. “It is a state-of-the-art facility with expanded services and beautiful amenities,” said Kambitsch.
This is the first new facility to open in the Libraries for a Smarter Future project, the Dayton Metro Library’s system-wide facilities upgrade made possible by voter support of a bond issue in 2012.
“It will do far more than replace the aging and inefficient facilities that housed the three small branches in the area,” Kambitsch said. “It will be a community resource for early literacy and workforce development.”
Featured amenities at the Northwest Branch Library include:
“We are pleased to announce our first long-term Opportunity Space Partner, the Funk Music Hall of Fame & Exhibition Center,” said Jayne Klose, Community Engagement Manager. “Memorabilia from TheFunkCenter’s growing collection will be on display at the Northwest Branch Library through late fall of 2016 and a docent will be on hand to offer information and expertise on the interactive display.”
