The Rosie Event: A Skype Discussion with Author Graeme Simsion

This year's Big Read concludes with a big event: a Skype session with Graeme Simsion, author of The Rosie Project. The Rosie Event: A Skype with Graeme Simsion takes place Saturday, April 25, 1:30 p.m. at Sinclair Community College's Ponitz Center. Sharon Kelly Roth of Books & Co. will moderate.

"This will be the ultimate book discussion with the author himself, live from New Zealand," said Chuck Duritsch, External Relations Manager at the Library and Big Read co-chair. "Even though he's halfway around the world, we're thrilled that he'll be part of our Big Read."

A moderated discussion about The Rosie Project is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. At 1:00 p.m., participants are invited to share their own love stories.

"Because The Rosie Project deals with the challenges of finding love, we want to hear how people met their true loves," said Duritsch. "We'll award prizes for the most romantic, most humorous, most unusual and most disastrous stories. Like the book, this will be a fun, entertaining look at love in our lives, and will be a great lead-in to the Skype with Graeme Simsion."

The Rosie Event: A Skype with Graeme Simsion takes place during the Dayton Book Expo and Local Authors Event, which runs from 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. that day. The free event includes panel discussions, activities for children and book signings.

This is the 10th year for the Big Read, which encourages residents in Montgomery and surrounding counties to read and talk about the same book. Discussions have been taking place at libraries, bookstores, and other locations throughout the Miami Valley over the past month.

"This book has given us lots to talk about," said Ben Murphy, co-chair of the Big Read. "Some groups have been very creative in using various plot points of the book to enhance their discussion, such as sampling sorbet and even offering dance instruction. The nature of this book seems to inspire creativity and lively conversation."

The Rosie Event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit or call the Dayton Metro Library at (937) 463-BOOK.
