Beyond Buggies and Bonnets: Free Library Program Offers a Unique Perspective on the Amish

Brenda-NixonGain a unique perspective on the cloistered Amish culture when Brenda Nixon presents "Beyond Amish Buggies and Bonnets: An 'Adopted' Mother's Tale" at the New Lebanon Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. The free program takes place Saturday, April 11, 2:30-4:00 p.m. at the Library, located 715 W. Main Street in New Lebanon.

Nixon's son-in-law is a former Amish of the Swartzentruber Order. Through him and others who have left the order, Nixon has a rare, intimate perspective of the private Amish culture.

"My husband and I open our hearts and home to Amish runaways," says Nixon. "I'm learning volumes deep inside the Amish from the many formers I know."

Nixon is a conference speaker, adjunct university instructor, and author of the award-winning The Birth to Five book. She has contributed to 31 books, including six in the New York Times best-selling Chicken Soup For The Soul series, and her parenting articles are featured in print and online magazines.
