Lessons Learned from an Appalachian Trail Hiker

Curious about what it takes to be a long-distance trail hiker? Kettering resident Andy Niekamp has hiked 8,000 miles on the Appalachian Trail, and he'll talk about his experiences on Tuesday, January 13, 6:30 p.m. at the Kettering-Moraine Branch of the Dayton Metro Library, 3496 Far Hills Avenue.

The Appalachian Trail (AT) runs 2,200 miles through 14 states. Niekamp has traveled most of the miles solo, in sections. He's been awarded three "2,000 Miler" certificates by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, which are conferred upon hikers who have completed the entire AT. He'll share tales of the trail, the natural scenery and the interesting people he's met along the way.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Kettering-Moraine Branch Library at 937-496-8938.
