In Downtown Dayton, the eclipse will peak just before 2:30pm. If you don't have safe eclipse glasses, it's not to late to make your own pinhole camera: https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/…/pr…/how-to-make-a-pinhole-camera/. Dayton Metro Library locations do not have eclipse glasses to give away. Culturegrams is an online collection of reports about over 200 countries, written for upper-elementary school students and above. It provides statistics and information about each country's history, government, daily life and customs.

Hear national anthems, country name pronunciations, and the sounds of state birds. Includes photos, recipes, and interviews with children and adults from many different countries.

Whether you're a student writing a report or someone just interested in learning more about a particular country, Culturegrams is an excellent resource.

2013 Poetry Contest Winners

The Dayton Metro Library took submissions in its annual Poetry Contest and below you can find the winning poems. This is the 16th year for the contest, open to residents of Montgomery and adjoining counties (Greene, Miami, Clark, Darke, Preble, Warren and Butler). There were three age categories: Teen (age 13-18), Adult (age 19-59) and Senior (age 60 and over). Winners are selected in each age category, with first place winning $100, second place $75 and third place $50. Prizes are donated by the Friends of the Dayton Metro Library.

A panel of judges read the entries in October, and a Poetry Party was held on November 10, at which the awards were presented.
