A new website from the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration, mySkillsmyFuture.org, is targeted toward job seekers who are wanting to change careers or to learn how their skills from previous jobs can transfer into new career fields.
To use the site, you will need to enter the job title of your current or previous job. The site will return a list of careers that use skills similar to the ones you have been using in your job. In addition to job titles and short descriptions, the site will also give you an average hourly or annual salary, and the type of training or education needed for each. You can compare the skills your current or previous job required and those of the potential job fields in the list. It will tell you which skills are similar and where you might encounter knowledge gaps. Entering your zip code will allow you to find local job listings and training options. |
