Booksale FAQs

How much do items cost?

Prices: Everything is $1.00
EXCEPT items in the Special Collection which will be priced as marked.

Is there a preview night?

There are no special preview days or hours. All booksale hours are open to the public.

Where do the booksale items come from?

Most of the materials sold at the booksale are "weeded" from throughout the Dayton Metro Library system. Weeding is a vital part of maintaining a useful Collection, as older and duplicate items are regulary removed in order to make room for new items. Weeded items are placed in off-site storage for the next booksale; donations that cannot be used in our Collection make up the rest of our booksale items.

What will I find at the booksale?

Old and new books for all ages, Music CDs movies on DVD, books on tape and CD, and more. There's something for everyone!

Will I be able to find a specific book I'm looking for?

For the first time, the books will be sorted into several subjects such as Sports, Military, Poetry, Mystery, Science Fiction, Local/Ohio interest, Arts/Antiques, Cookbooks, Cars, Adult Fiction, Paperbacks, Biographies, Children’s Picture books, Juvenile, Teens plus more

Who benefits from the sale?

All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library organization. With these funds, the Friends provide incentives for Summer Challenge, sponsor speakers and help support branch programs that fall outside the general operating budget of the Dayton Metro Library. Information about the Friends and what they do with the proceeds can be found here.

Do you accept donations for the sale?

The Dayton Metro Library and Friends of the Library accept donations of books and audio-visual items for our annual book sales. Donations are accepted at all Dayton Metro Library locations.  Due to space limitations we can only accept two boxes per location.

We can write you a receipt for tax purposes if you like. Call or email our Volunteer Services Manager 937.496.8638 / volunteer@daytonmetrolibrary.org if you need more information on donating book sale materials. Unfortunately we are not able to pick up your donations.

Donations we cannot accept include:

  • Magazines/Newspapers
  • Books that are damaged, missing pages, have a musty smell or are otherwise noticeably flawed
  • Audio visual items that are missing tapes/CDs, scratched, damaged or may not play properly
  • No VHS

If you have something on this list that we can't accept, please call Goodwill, St. Vincent DePaul or other thrift shops or vintage book collectors.
