Learning to recognize and talk about feelings goes a long way towards helping preschoolers learn to cope with their emotions. Picture books are a great way to focus attention on feelings, and to talk about why we have them and what to do about them, etc. Children are often not capable of learning new things in the heat of a strong emotion, but finding books to share about similar situations when everything has simmered down, is a great way to learn.
