Refugee Children

Understanding the experiences of refugee children is not necessarily a topic to take up with preschool children. It is important to protect young children from potentially disturbing images and stories.   However, if you know of a young child who has survived trauma and traveled to the U.S. for refuge, sharing books with them that reflect their experiences might be valuable.  Stories can have therapeutic value and create a safe context for talk about past experiences.
