Books, movies, advertisements, other media present children them with images that reflect how society looks at them and thus how they should look at themselves. In this public context, every child is confronted with a critical existential question: Who am I? And is it OK to be who I am? Since a positive self-image is closely linked to well-being and the capacity to succeed in school, we all have a stake in children learning that they are valued and important.
