TALK TO YOUR BABY

Researchers at the University of Washington and University of Connecticut studied thousands of 30-second verbal exchanges between parents and babies and found that parents who talked in a higher pitch and elongated words (parentese) had children with better language development. Sometimes referred to as “baby talk”, the adults don’t substitute sounds that sound more babyish: “Do you want your ‘bankie’(in place of ‘blanket’)?”  Instead, they stretch out words and exaggerate vowels: “How are youuuuuuu?” Check out this fun little video on the right from PBS to see what it sounds like.
