Even when infants can’t understand the meaning of the words or pictures, they enjoy the one-on-one time with you. Talk about the pictures and look at your baby. Ask questions and wait expectantly for him or her to vocalize. When your baby makes sounds, respond as if the sounds are words and say something back. This turn-taking game is a precursor to actually having a conversation later on. The happy feelings your baby enjoys with you and books, helps to set the stage for later enjoyment of books.
