Finding Reading Moments

Most parents have heard the dictum “You are your child’s first teacher.”  But honestly, you are also your child’s first laundress, driver, cook and personal bather, among other things. So how do you find time to do it all?  Here’s one suggestion: While cleaning dishes or folding laundry, ask your child to “read” a favorite book to you while you work. This practice retelling familiar stories is great for building language and literacy skills.  Ask questions about the story as he or she tells the story. Books with lots of repetition are ideal for this purpose:
