Play

When young children engage in pretend play, they are engaged in activities vital to their development.  They practice their language and social skills, and construct a deeper understanding of the world.  When a block represents a stick of butter, or blanket on the floor a swimming pool, young children are thinking abstractly, which supports their growing ability to creatively problem solve.  So, don’t worry that your children are “just playing”; they are doing the serious “work” of childhood.
