Poetry

Researchers have recommended that preschool children have experiences with many different types of writing: storybooks, non-fiction, recipes, magazines, cereal box labels, street signs, etc.  These experiences help your child to learn how written text functions.   Poetry is the most kinesthetic of all literature. When read aloud, it is rhythm and sounds and beats. Young children may not understand all the words or meaning, but they'll feel the rhythms, get curious about what they mean and perhaps want to create their own.
