Preschool is a wonderful age to celebrate Valentine’s Day by sending cards. They love sending and receiving them and it provides a real reason for them to write their name over and over again. If you start soon enough, you can get your child to sign their name (however they write it) on every card they give. Don’t worry if you child isn’t yet writing their name, just ask them to try, or to “pretend” and express your happiness with the result. The point is to get them using writing utensils. The motor control will come in time. For Valentines that you are mailing, get a map and show where the mail is going, talk about addresses and how the mail carrier knows where to take the mail.
