Dayton Metro Library will launch a new texting service on June 8th aimed at supporting parents and caregivers in their efforts to get children ready for kindergarten success. Three times a week, fun, easy tips prompt parents, grandparents and babysitters to take advantage of everyday situations and turn them into learning experiences. In a study conducted by Stanford researchers, parents who received regular text tips spent more time doing literacy-related activities with their preschoolers, and the children acquired two to three months' worth of learning compared to their peers. The tips are appropriate for infants, toddlers or preschoolers and will focus on skills that are the building blocks of later reading success. Participants will receive text tips each week from June through Labor Day, and can opt out at any time. Standard text rates apply.
