"Fwip, fwip, fwip" is the sound of Earl's tail wagging and it is repeated throughout this fun and energetic tale. Call your child's attention to the repetitious text and eventually ask him or her to say the words as you point to each 'fwip.' This type of activity builds awareness of print: the knowledge that those black squiggly lines on the page represent spoken language, that print is read from left to right, from the top of the page to the bottom, that words are made up of letters and that there is a space between each word. |
