Young children observe adults closely, and imitate everything we do and say. This is a time in their lives when we have tremendous influence on the people they are becoming. Use this opportunity to let them know that books are a source of pleasure and learning for you. The model you set as a reader can help to shape their attitudes about learning to read.
When choosing books to read aloud, include books you like in addition to the ones your child likes. He or she will pick up on your appreciation and enjoy sharing it with you. City Dog, Country Frog is a new book that I LOVE. The pictures are lovely and silly, the characters endearing, and the story is moving. |
