Maybe this book will inspire your child to draw a monster. But watch out!! The monster might be very demanding and require lots more drawing. Jeremy draws a monster who then wants a sandwich, a toaster, a record player and more! He even takes over Jeremy's bed. In desperation, clever Jeremy draws his monster a suitcase and a bus ticket and shows him out of town. Peter McCarty's artwork is great for preschoolers. The engaging characters stand out against lots of white space, making the pictures easy to interpret. After reading this book, bring out paper and drawing materials and talk with your child about his or her drawings. Instead of praise, ask questions about what he or she is thinking about. Will their monster need some food to eat? What does it like to eat? Does it need a bed or does it sleep on the floor? This type of conversation will help your child develop oral language skills.
