When you bring your preschooler to the library, it is important to let him or her browse and make choices about which books are of interest. This increases their motivation to sit and listen to the books they chose.
In addition to this strategy, have your own selections in mind too. Humorous books are always a hit and author Jan Thomas is a good one to check out. Her silly characters, ornery situations and simple pictures are perfect for young children. With repeated readings, your child can begin to recite the text and join with you in the “reading.” |
