The ability to recognize and produce a rhyme is an important skill to have when phonics instruction begins. It is fortunate that young children enjoy learning rhymes because this gives us lots of opportunities to help children attend to the sound in words. The ability to hear the sounds in words, apart from their meanings, is the foundation of their later understanding that letters represent the sounds in words.
Pocketful of Posies is a beautiful collection of traditional Mother Goose rhymes illustrated with gorgeous textile art. The characters are little folksy dolls in miniature worlds created with felt, embroidery, crochet, macrame, found objects, etc. |
