Good nonfiction contains the essence of life--pieces of the "story" about who we are, about the animals and plants with which we share our inhabitance of the earth, and about how the world works, with all its wonder and fascination. Susan Canizares Jane Yolen and Jason Stemple combined their talents in this and several other books with gorgeous nature photography, poetry and a few facts about the creatures in the photos. This is not a book to read from cover to cover in one setting with a young child. Look through the pictures, talk about what you see, read a poem or two and a fact or two and wonder aloud. What do you find strange or interesting? What questions do the pictures bring up? How can you find out more?
