Preschool children are just beginning to develop their sense of chronological time.   The best way to support this is to teach them about time in relation to themselves: what they did yesterday or last week, "field trip day", etc.   You can begin to teach your child the days of the week when reading, Always in Trouble.    It  is a fun story about a family pet who badly needs some training.   Each day of the week he manages to get into mischief: "On Monday he got into the garbage.   On Tuesday he ran into the road. On Wednesday he ate a loaf of bread that Emma's dad had just baked"..and the tale goes on.   The situations are ones that most dog owners have experienced and the pictures are humorous.    The happy ending is probably not something we experience though: Toby ends up baking, vacuuming, washing the kitchen floor and otherwise   helping out.   Of course, "...no dog can be perfect always - not even Toby."   Describing Toby's antics throughout the days of the week is a structure that repeats three times, giving children  repeated exposure to weekday names.
