Research has robustly demonstrated that adult-child conversation is associated with language growth. (F. Zimmerman et al, July, 2009) You can take advantage of this when reading aloud by taking time to talk with children as you go. Make a comment and wait to see if your child responds, ask open ended questions that can't be answered by one word answers, and make connections between your child's experiences and the experiences of the characters in the book.

Uh-oh! by Rachel Isadora lends itself to conversation because the text is very limited and the pictures tell the story. The situations depicted are common for toddlers and humorous to preschoolers.

There's a song on this CD by Rosenshotz called "Uh oh" that would be fun to listen to after reading this book.
