Children’s Librarian
Dayton Metro Library is seeking a dedicated, patron focused Children Librarian to work at the Brookville Branch
Library. Brookville is a small but growing town in the northwest corner of Montgomery County. The Library serves
suburban and rural patrons from surrounding counties as well as the town itself.
Job Responsibilities: The Children’s Librarian, under the direction of the Branch Manager is responsible for maintaining the children’s
collection and for promoting reading and library use among children, with a primary emphasis on school age children.
Provides library users with assistance in reference, readers’ advisory, and in the use of library materials and
reference resources. Serves at the public reference desk and in a roaming capacity. Participates in the
development of the branch collection profile, evaluates and suggests titles for purchase or replacement. Develops
and coordinates and presents children’s activities and programs. Provides service and maintains liaisons with
schools and community agencies.
Job Qualifications: Ability to use Internet and other new information technologies; ability to work
effectively with schools and other community organizations; knowledge of children’s literature and collection
development methods; experience working with planning and presenting children’s programs, and excellent community
relation skills required. MLS preferred.
Salary and Benefits: $34,132- $40,206. Excellent benefit package includes up to 22 days of vacation, 10
