| It’s a dark, winter evening with cabin fever setting in. I know I’m a librarian and books are all around me at work, but I still love to be a patron. So to combat the cabin fever I brave the cold and head for my local library branch. I browse the magazine shelves and pick up a few of my favorite magazines: Forbes, Time, Better Homes & Gardens, Psychology Today, Mayo Clinic Health Letter, and whatever cover story piques my interest. Then I plop myself down in a chair, and savor the quiet block of time I have allowed myself to read. There are no dirty dishes in the sink or dirty laundry pulling me away from my reading, and no money out of my pocket and no magazines to recycle – just solitude and pleasure reading. A couple hours easily pass away as I page through the stories, pictures, and recipes. When it’s time to leave, I think about how I need to do this more often.
