Did you ever have a moment in your life you wished you could do-over? The 13th Hour combines mystery and sci-fi with an unusual premise for a thriller. The hook is an author’s note warning you that the story begins with chapter 12 and is indeed to be read in reverse order. Nick Quinn is the primary suspect in the murder of his wife, Julia. While he waits for an attorney in a police interrogation room, a well-dressed stranger enters the room and tells him he can still save her. He gives Nick a gold pocket watch and a sealed letter, not to be opened until he gets out of the police station. In his confusion and grief, Nick latches onto that single glimmer of hope that his wife might still be alive. As long as the watch is in his possession, he has twelve hours to clear himself and save his wife. With each hour Nick travels back in time, we learn additional facts about Nick and Julia, that good guys and bad buys aren’t necessarily who they seem, and that crime can be a very complex business. Nick’s desperation and confusion is palpable hour after hour. There are plot twists and surprises as Nick discovers the unexpected consequences of his own actions as he races to save more than just his wife. According to Mr. Doetsch, he wrote the story backwards, just as the reader experiences it. And, the screenplay has been written and has been optioned by New Line Cinema for the big screen.
