If you ha ve not seen Tony Jaa in action, you must. He is a rising star, heir to the legacy of his inspirations, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, and Jet Li. However, this is no kung fu movie, this is muay thai! And, Tony Jaa does all his stunts without mechanical assistance or CGI. In the movie he plays Kham, last in a line of protectors of the King of Thailand's war elephants. His elephants are stolen by a gang and shipped to Sydney, Australia to become an exotic menu item at a luxurious restaurant. Kham battles the gang in increasingly overwhelming situations. Watch for the 4 minute long stairway scene, filmed in a single take, and the inconceivable east versus west match with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Also check out Tony Jaa in his first film, Ong-Bak: the Thai Warrior, also available from the library. Its prequel is in theaters now: Ong-Bak 2: The Beginning. Like the Protector, these movies feature spectacular martial arts performances in a thoughtful and dramatic script.
