15 years of imprisonment, five days of vengeance. Oh Dae-su, once an obnoxious drunk, is released after being imprisoned for 15 years. Armed with a phone, a new suit, and 15 years of imaginary martial training, he has five days to wreak his revenge. After several rough encounters with the first live humans he has seen in 15 years, he makes quite an impression on the chef Mido (who prepares him some very raw sushi). Together they set out to discover the kidnapper's motive and uncover haunting and shocking secrets from their shared past. Oldboy surges from brutal rage to inconsolable emotion, convincingly acted by Choi Min-Sik (who also does most of his stunts). A remake is in the works by Dreamworks and Steven Spielberg, starring Will Smith. Watch this original first; it will be hard to top the superbly choreographed action scenes, such as the side-scrolling hallway fight scene, reminiscent of arcade fighting games. "Oldeuboi" is Korean director Chan-Wook Park's second episode of the Vengeance trilogy. You can also check out the third episode, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, from the library. Lastly, I recommend the subtitles instead of the poor English dub.
