Antony and the Johnsons are hard to categorize musically. Fronted by gender renegade Antony Hegarty, this is their third CD of art-alterna-chamber music. With their poetic, Dadist lyrics and Antony's one of a kind vocals (I think he sounds like Boy George with adenoidal problems sitting in a vibrating chair and that's a GOOD thing!) this is the perfect CD to listen to if you are looking for something totally out of the ordinary. This is only their third full-length release, but you might have heard them on the V for Vendetta soundtrack on the song Bird Gurhl or found the entrancing video of You are My Sister on YouTube (a duet with Boy George-surprise!) All Music gives this CD 4 ½ stars out of 5, the LA Times 4 out of 4, and Entertainment Weekly gives it an A-. The slightly disturbing cover photo is of Japanese Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno to whom the CD is dedicated. A trip from start to finish; if you'd like to experience a less bizarre taste of Antony, try Hercules and Love Affair that is ALSO Antony and the Johnsons and you can dance to it.
