 If you were lucky enough to snag tickets to the single, sold-out performance of "Avenue Q" on March 30th at the Victoria Theater, you don't need a recap (and you probably ran out and bought the cast album...provided the performance didn't offend you). For the rest of you, Avenue Q is a hysterical musical that won the 2004 best musical Tony (it also won best Book and best Original Score). It ran for over 5 years and over 2500 performances. Basically you can think of it as "Rent" meets "Sesame Street." Yes, I said Sesame Street, nearly all the performers on stage have puppets...are puppets. There are three human characters and eleven puppets voiced (and manipulated) by several other actors. It's a love story and a story about college grads and others finding themselves on a low-rent avenue in New York. It will make you tap your toes, it will have you doubled over with laughter...but it is intended for mature audiences only. The creators are probably headed for another set of awards this year with their musical collaboration with the South Park creators: "Book of Mormon."
