 Anna In-Between is a really good novel and a quick read. The novel's main character, Anna, is a successful book editor who lives in New York. She returns to her childhood Caribbean home for a visit. Her mother has been diagnosed with breast cancer, but is refusing conventional medical treatment. Anna, with her now largely American ideals, must bridge the generational and cultural divides that separate her from her parent's traditional Caribbean island culture. Although Anna's parents are wealthy they hold on to many of the ideas of their colonial ancestors. Nunez successfully navigates the relationship between a mother and daughter, a father and a daughter, and husband and wife. Her astute portrait of racial issues, a family in crisis and the portrayal of a successful marriage makes this book a page turner.
