Our Strategic Plan

Library's Strategic Plan Reflects Community Needs

Success today does not guarantee success tomorrow. Today's best organizations constantly listen to the communities they serve and adapt to meet changing needs. That's the approach behind "Turning Your Ideas into Reality: The Dayton Metro Library's Strategic Plan for Results." Take a look at the pdf-icon-tinyExecutive Summary or read the pdf-icon-tinyEntire Plan.

The process of creating our plan was as important as the plan itself. We could only produce a community oriented plan with the help of many dedicated people. Hundreds of citizens attended our planning meetings, telling us about their needs and suggesting ways the library could become a more active partner in meeting those needs.

After more than two dozen public planning sessions, library staff took these ideas and developed a plan with measurable goals and objectives. The objectives were organized into five outcomes:

  • Youth Succeeding
  • Adults Succeeding/Lifelong Learning
  • Community Commons
  • Discovery and Interaction in a Virtual World
  • Stimulating Imagination

Our planning is not yet complete. We are entering into the second phase of our plan which builds upon the hundreds of specific recommendations and comments we received about our facilities. We will assess how well our buildings support our new strategic plan goals and identify how they need to be changed or updated.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
